I can't download anything off the internet.
It doesn't matter if I use mozilla or internet explorer.
When I download with Mozilla, the download runs like it normally would, and goes to completion. It tells me the file is done downloading, but when i go to the folder that I saved it in, the file size is 0 kb.

With internet explorer it also downloads, but then the file is not anywhere to be found. When I search for the file it shows up but is unable to locate it and asks if I want to manually browse.

I have no idea why it doesn't work.
I'm running windows 7. ATI Radeon graphics card. Everything else seems to be working okay.

Do you have a firewall installed..

Who is your ISP.

Are you using a router..
If so, are other computers able to download anything. If not, unplug the router and plug directly into your cable/dsl modem.

PS> Check your PM's.

I saw this problem recently. Do you by chance have two antivirus programs installed? Like AVG and Symantec? Uninstall one of them.

Probably what is happening is your browser goes to pass the file to the AV and it all gets dropped on the floor by the fumbling of the two suites.

Milim,
I don't know my ISP because I'm in a dorm, but I know it has nothing to do with the ISP.
I am not using a router, I am wired directly to a wall. It does not work on any connection, even though my roommates does and he has the same comp.

Ximok,
Um, I don't believe this would be the problem. I'm fairly sure that avg 8.5 is my only virus protection, but perhaps there is a windows virus protection as well that I'm not aware of?

Thanks for helping me through this. Any other suggestions?
Milim, I'll shoot you a text.

Well, you live in a dorm.. so there could be things done on the networking side that you have no control over.

Did this just start today?
Is this your dorm room?
Is this a new computer?

Try and run a speed test and see if it works. speedtest.net (Ximoks sig)

Speed tests download a file to your computer to test your download speed.

It's not going to be a networking problem as the file is actually downloading. It's going to be something on his computer. Specifically a process where the browser hands the file off to another program (like an AV or anti-spyware). If one of those processes fails, it can produce the behavior you are describing. A 0 kb file (which is created by mozilla at the start of the dl) and no temp file, which is used for the actual download.

Hope this helps.

Some things i found.

kb.mozillazine.org/Una...load_files

pcsplace.com/windows-v...eb-filter/
(try creating a new user and see if they also can't download)

This seems to be really intersting.. Very Happy
support.mozilla.com/de...m/1/504042
(seems like this might be the winner)

Yeah I pretty much knew it wasn't with the networking.
Thanks Ximok.

Milim,
The last link you provided could very well be my problem. According to my computer, I have AVG8, AVG 8.5, and AVG 9. However, when I went to uninstall them it wouldn't let me because it said "install failed."
Something must have gone wrong when I upgraded.
I'm gonna delete the files and restart to see if it fixes my issue.

YEYYEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSssss

Thank you guys so much. I couldn't uninstall but I deleted the avg files and restarted my comp and my downloads work perfectly.
This really makes my day. I've had to get my assignments for school from other people and haven't been able to get new software of any kind.

3 hours on windows support didn't get me anywhere.
